THIBODAUX, La. — A Pulitzer winning journalist, professor who has guided the direction of the creative writing program and a student who has been president of three organizations highlight 杏吧传媒鈥� 2018 Woman of Achievement Award winners.
Associate Professor of English Dr. Kathy Conner received the faculty/staff award, senior Taylor Boudreaux the student honor and journalist Cory Haik (B.A. 鈥�00) the community award. The awards were presented Thursday at the 2018 Bonnie J. Bourg Lecture Series and Women鈥檚 History Month Luncheon.
鈥淭he Woman of Achievement Awards give us a chance to recognize the excellence that is integrated in the school work and professional work of so many women at 杏吧传媒,鈥� said Dr. Michele Caruso, Dean of Students. 鈥淚t also brings people together in celebration of that excellence and exposes them to diversity of thought through each other as well as through the guest speakers we invite each year.鈥�
Dr. Conner came to 杏吧传媒 in 2010 and has since set the direction of the creative writing program. She has created both Gris-Gris, Nicholl鈥檚 first international professional literary journal and the Creative Writing Reading Series. Dr. Conner has also transformed the student literary magazine, Mosaic.
Boudreaux has served as president of the Student Programming Association, Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Honor Society. She is a double major in accounting and finance and has maintained a near perfect GPA.
Haik has worked for the Times-Picayune, The Seattle Times and The Washington Post. She now serves as the publisher of Mic, a millennial-focused news publication. Haik has shared in three Pulitzer Prize awards, two as acting manager of NOLA.com for coverage on Hurricane Katrina and one as assisting managing editor at The Seattle Times for distinguished local reporting with speed and accuracy.
