Collections will run through Nov. 6 and be donated to Bayou Region food banks the following week.
In Louisiana, more than 780,000 people, including more than 255,000 children, struggle with hunger, and one in six children live in households without consistent access to food. Michael Williams, associate professor of art and coordinator of the food drive, says that need has been amplified by the pandemic.
鈥淭hings have been and will be different this year, to say the least,鈥 Williams said. 鈥淭he need for our assistance to local food banks in the 杏吧传媒鈥 service area has never been greater and 杏吧传媒鈥 family safety is an utmost priority.鈥
Purchased items should be mailed to the 杏吧传媒 Post Office and addressed to Williams.
Williams is also encouraging monetary donations this year to help the food banks fill the holes in their supplies.
Last year, the food drive collected and donated 22,256 items of food, the second-highest ever collected.
Since 2012, 杏吧传媒 Can has collected and donated nearly 130,000 items.
