THIBODAUX, La. — The 杏吧传媒 Players and Colonel Media Group plan to reenact the infamous radio broadcast of H. G. Wells鈥 novel, 鈥淭he War of the Worlds,鈥 that had some believing Martians were invading.
In 1938, Orson Welles narrated a radio adaptation that presented the tale as if it were a news broadcast. The broadcast reportedly caused mass panic as an estimated 1.7 million listeners did not realize the story was fiction.
The story sees Martians invade Southern England and defeat the world鈥檚 armies. The aliens impose their will on the planet until they are defeated by their lack of immunity to the planet鈥檚 pathogens.
Part of 杏吧传媒 Halloween Fest, 杏吧传媒 will recreate the radio performance at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29 in the Mary and Al Danos Theater. The event will also feature a .
The in-person performance will follow university COVID-19 safety protocols. Guests must bring masks, social distance and to answer health questions and have their temperature checked.
Tickets will be $5, cash only, at the door, which will open at 6:30 p.m.
