Position Title: Digital Content Specialist

Department: 2032|Distance Learning

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Marketing and Communications within the Office of Distance Learning, the Digital Content Specialist will write and edit accurate, accessible, and customer-focused messages for all Office of Distance Learning units while coordinating with appropriate stakeholders, including academic departments and central Office of Communications and Marketing staff.

The Digital Content Specialist will:

  • Write and edit a variety of targeted messages for prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community. These communications include, but are not limited to: news releases, web content, features, blog posts, recruitment material, reports, presentations, ad copy, and other special projects.  
  • Create compelling content for websites, social media platforms and marketing campaigns designed to capture student interest and influence enrollment while adhering to University brand standards and website style guidelines.  
  • Develop content to highlight quality online teaching practices and promote digital learning tools.  
  • Ensure web content is up-to-date, accessible, and optimized to meet marketing goals.  
  • Support the assessment, cataloguing, and organization of website content.  
  • Craft robust recruitment-focused email marketing campaigns and schedule delivery through the University’s customer relationship management system and other systems.  
  • Contribute to the Office of Distance Learning’s communications calendar.  
  • Conduct keyword research and create search engine optimization plans.  
  • Analyze target audiences & competitive behavior across digital landscapes.  
  • Establish and analyze metrics and key performance indicators to determine effectiveness and viability of communication strategies and tactics.  
  • Report and website traffic statistics and make recommendations for optimizing web presence on a quarterly basis.  
  • Perform related duties as necessary to support the UL Lafayette Office of Distance Learning mission, goals, and objectives.  

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, marketing, communications, or a closely related field is required.  

Preferred Qualifications:

Must be an exceptional writer with:  

  • Experience in content development for Web and other digital media.  
  • Experience using Drupal or similar web content management system.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online content strategy, usability and accessibility principles, and SEO approaches.  
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and other SEO analytics tools.
  • Strong research, writing, editing, and proofreading abilities with expert level attention to detail.  
  • Demonstrable skills in persuasive communication with the ability to incorporate a diversity of backgrounds, cultures, talents, and experiences when developing content for different audiences.  
  • Proficient in the usage of email marketing and desktop publishing software.  
  • Ability to work independently and present creative ideas within an interdependent team.  
  • Fast, flexible, cooperative work style.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.  
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and testing as well as cross-browser testing.  
  • Ability to operate within customer relationship management systems and other databases.
