News Producer

WGNO-TV/WNOL-TV | New Orleans

WGNO-TV, the ABC affiliate in New Orleans, is looking for an experienced and creative news producer. The successful candidate must have outstanding news judgment, must know how to handle breaking news, utilize all live elements, and be dynamic. The candidate must also deliver and contribute accurate, visual news content across all platforms under deadline in a fast-paced newsroom.Ìý

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicates with reporters and content center to develop storytelling within broadcastÌý
  • Writes for broadcast including intros and tags creating cohesive storytellingÌý
  • Works with Executive Producer and Assistant News Director to execute daily newscasts  ÌýÌý
  • Participates in daily editorial meetingsÌý
  • Boothing assigned newscasts, breaking news and weather events
  • Commands control in control room by communicating clear vision to production team, reporters, photographers and anchorsÌý
  • Builds relationships with all team members proactively including anchors, sports and meteorologists.Ìý
  • Assists in the production of special projects and other content related to program and/or stationÌý
  • Balance of strong journalist skills, ability to execute action plans and creative vision to support strong show deliveryÌý
  • Ability to recognize stories with potential and develop them into compelling broadcast contentÌý
  • Ability to scour social media for story ideas and make calls to confirmÌý
  • Excellent time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and work under shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment Ìý
  • Must be available to work holidays, shifts including nights, weekends and overnights, and flexible with schedule to be available during breaking news

Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Effective writing skills a must, along with good organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Strong news judgment, journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations.
  • Ability to meet quality standards for service and evaluate customer satisfaction.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and at least two years work-related experience preferred.
  • Required to post digital/social media content.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art broadcast and digital technology.
  • Prior experience with ENPS a plus.
  • Have and exhibit the highest journalistic integrity and ethical standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year College or University in Journalism or Communications preferredÌý
  • Valid Driver’s License
